If you are looking for the best dog-friendly parks in Johannesburg there is definitely no shortage of beautiful places to walk your dog. These are some of Ginny and Georges favourites.
Delta Park
for the water lovers and the wanderers

Wide open spaces, winding trails, and little pockets of water that your dog will inevitably find. Delta Park is easily one of the most loved dog-friendly parks in Johannesburg, especially for those longer, more relaxed walks.
It is perfect for slow weekend mornings, with plenty of routes to explore and space for dogs to roam. Along the way, you’ll find coffee at Fresh Earth Food Store and Delta Café, as well as the some smaller coffee vans sometimes scattered along the park.
We love how everyone is so dog friendly here and just want the dogs to have fun!

James and Ethel Gray Park
for the social butterflies

Smaller, beautifully kept, and always full of life. Ideal for easy, everyday walks, especially if your dog thrives on a bit of social interaction.
There’s a calm, family-oriented feel to the park, with lots of kids and groups often gathered around the open spaces, which adds to the friendly neighbour
hood atmosphere. If your dog is not comfortable around children or still struggles with socialisation, it’s something to keep in mind before visiting.
We’ve also heard the pizzas here are some of the best in Johannes
burg, which makes it very easy to linger a little longer than planned.

There’s plenty of space for both off-leash exploring and relaxed, on-lead walks. Whether you are heading there for a quiet morning or a late afternoon picnic, the dog-friendly side gives everyone enough room to spread out and settle in.

Walkhaven
for the ones who want to make a day of it

A bit of a drive, but always worth it. Walkhaven is often considered one of the best off-leash dog parks near Johannesburg, with large open spaces and secure areas designed specifically for dogs.
This is the place to go when you want to have a day out with your pup. There’s a relaxed restaurant and good coffee on-site, so you can settle in while the dogs run freely and burn off energy.
Think long lunches, muddy paws, and very happy, very tired dogs on the drive home.

The Wilds
for the pups looking for something different

A little more structured, with pathways, stairs, and quiet pockets along the way. While not a traditional open park, it offers a unique option for those looking for more scenic dog walking spots in Johannesburg.
The views over the city are worth it alone, especially in the early morning or late afternoon. It feels like a small escape, right in the middle of Joburg.

for the adventure seekers

Not your typical park. With rocky paths, uneven terrain, and incredible views, Melville Koppies feels more like a hike than a walk.
